Crito

On the American frontier a prospector is sentenced to die. The night before his execution, Socrates’ friend Crito opens his cell and reveals a plan for escape. But Socrates will not leave until they decide whether it's right.

With life and death hanging in the balance, Crito and Socrates explore the nature of Goodness, the cultivation of Wisdom and each citizen’s duty to the Law.

Upcoming Projects

Zhuangzi – Paradox & Play
Three cinematic parables—The Butterfly Dream, The Fish Trap, and The Transformation of Things—bring Zhuangzi’s wit to life, inviting students to wrestle with change, knowledge, and the unity of opposites.

The Apology – Socrates on Trial
A brisk, courtroom-style film that lets viewers hear Socrates’ defense in his own words and weighs the timeless clash between conscience and the state.

Euthyphro – What Makes It Right?
Set outside a modern courthouse, this dialogue-to-film adaptation turns Plato’s puzzle about piety and justice into a starter kit for moral philosophy.

More Tales from Zhuangzi – Freedom & Spontaneity
A second collection of short stories—Cook Ding, The Joy of Fishes, and others—that pushes students to question fixed identities and embrace creative living.

Our Mission

Philosight unlocks the classics through film. Short, discussion-ready movies that place ancient ideas in updated cultural context—keeping the arguments intact while making them feel fresh.

Designed for teachers, Philosight puts you in control. You choose when and how each film reaches your students, whether to spark a debate, preview a text, or clarify a tough passage.

Film isn’t meant to replace reading; it’s a bridge. By meeting students in a language they know, we invite them back to the original words with greater curiosity and insight.
